A no score trolley from the path between Sainsbury's and the West Street foot bridge over the railway line. No score as, without any equipment, I failed to lift it off the fence. First thought was a step ladder, but that would be a bit precarious, so second thought was a 3m scaffold pole with a block & tackle rigged at the top of it. With such a thing, such a trolley could just about be recovered single handed. I shall start looking about for a suitable pole. Screwfix probably do block & tackle, of a sort at least.
Good news from Ewell Village in that it looks as if the proposed wine bar - Wilds Lounge - either has opened or is on the verge of opening, after a long pause which had suggested pain or blockage; maybe even residents' counter action. See references 1 & 2. Furthermore, the Star, the refurbishment of which stalled some years ago now and the owner of which is said to be expatriate, is now up for sale. Watch that space.
More good news from Sainsbury's in that they have had the passage along the eastern side of the store litter picked. Looked fine this morning, what with budding greenery and bright spring day. See reference 3.
And so to their upstairs café. Clean and spacious, if quiet and a touch utility. I wondered how on earth they justify spending so much expensive space on such a thing. Perhaps there was a change of plan after its construction was too far gone to pull back from, back in the balmy days when the big four supermarkets were still in full steam ahead mode, before the Germans had been thought of. From where I associate to the complacency of the big pub chains like Grand Metropolitan in the face of the infant Wetherspoons.
