Bashing dissidents

Nothing new about using drastic methods to curb dissent - as is shown in this rather striking picture of dissidents being chucked into a ravine back in 200BCE, about the time that we here were investing in big hill forts like Maiden Castle. No writing, so no dissent recorded.

I rather like the way that the dissident on the far right is trying to glide down the ravine, rather like one of those chaps who put on wingsuits now to do the same sort of thing. With the difference that they still deploy parachutes at the end of their flights.

With thanks, in the first instance, to the NYRB.
