Tree

A view looking west across Horton Lane at the bole of a tree which was probably felled by last night's wind. Not a very well tree judging by the state of its roots and now lying diagonally across the grass verge where, luckily, it is not in the way of traffic.

While taking a look, I was surprised to find when looking the other way, east, that one had a clear view of the stands up on the downs, with hardly a house to be seen. One might almost have been out in the country.

Then a bit further along, one of the old oak trees outside Horton Golf Club was full of chattering starlings.

Crossed the road to find, once again, the north corner of Hook Road Arena acting as the drain, with plenty of water finding its way down out of the arena, over the paths and onto the road. So the tributary of the Hogsmill, clearly marked out by gmaps, is clearly not doing the job it presumably once did - I would guess that leveling the ground to make the arena disturbed the natural drainage. Perhaps the orgo-eco people ought to petition for the restoration of the natural contours of the land.

And so down Longmead Road where just one small tree down on a verge. Maybe there will be more damage tonight.
