Seeing red rectangles

Nicholas Humphrey wrote at reference 1 about seeing red. I have been writing about the slightly more complicated business of seeing red rectangles. And having today reached something of a period, it is a good time to summarise this sra series of posts - cunningly adjusted to the magic number of seven, a number on which I have posted several times in the past. See, for example, reference 2.

Post 1: http://psmv3.blogspot.co.uk/2016/12/from-grids-to-objects.html

Defining patterns on rectangular grids of numbers.

Post 2: http://psmv3.blogspot.co.uk/2017/01/expressions-and-their-orders.html

A digression on a partial ordering of expressions which can be made with brackets and equals signs, with the key structure being a sequence of optionally labeled phrases - a bit like the html of the internet. A digression to which I shall return in due course, when I come to look at more complicated scenes, going beyond coloured rectangles.

Post 3: http://psmv3.blogspot.co.uk/2017/01/lines.html

Using the patterns introduced at post 1 to define lines and loops rather than shapes and spaces.

Post 4: http://psmv3.blogspot.co.uk/2017/01/layers-and-columns.html

Introducing the key data structure, a structure made up of a small number of layers defined on a large array of grid points. The sort of array which might be thought to be derivable from a small patch, a few square centimeters, of human cortex.

Post 5: http://psmv3.blogspot.co.uk/2017/02/restatement-of-hypothesis.html

A statement of what we are trying to do here, in short to present data and processes which we suggest might amount to consciousness.

Post 6: http://psmv3.blogspot.co.uk/2017/03/on-seeing-rectangles.html

Setting up a simple world of rectangles to be conscious of.

Post 7: http://psmv3.blogspot.co.uk/2017/03/activation-revisited.html

Linking that world back to our patterns and layers. Expanding on what we mean by activation of the data structure expressing the scene of rectangles.
