Dorset wine

A short report on the two bottles of wine bought from Dorset Wine, mentioned in the post before last about our day in Portland.

Bottle one - recto
Bottle one - verso
Serradeifiori. La Regina Langhe. Nascetta 2016. Whatever that lot might mean. I do know that it was a white wine from the Piedmont in Italy. But while Braida clearly has existed - 'The son of a winemaker, Giacomo Bologna established the small Braida Winery in Rocchetta Tanaro, in the province of Asti, Piedmont, in 1961. By the early 1980's Braida di Bologna Giacomo had produced three stellar crus' - he does not appear to exist now. Attempts to access his sites turned up by Bing all fail.

Taken in the early evening of a day out, involving a non-alcoholic but substantial pub lunch. Taken with wholemeal bread from Poundbury Waitrose, 'Lincolnshire Poacher' cheese from Neal's Yard Dairy and dates from Grape Tree.

Good, but, unusually, we did not manage to finish the whole bottle in one sitting. And the couple of inches or so left did not stand well. Not so good the next day.

Bottle two
Domaine André Moingeon & Fils. 2015. Grand vin de Bourgogne. Puligny-Montrachet. 1er Cru. La Garenne. Grapes picked by hand (Bulgarians? Romanians?) and wine bottled on the spot.

Berry Bros. would let me pay a great deal - hundreds of pounds even - for wine with a similar label. But a bit more work and I actually track this one down to St. Aubin and reference 1 - although this particular year does not seem to exist there.

Terroir
From which I learn that vines have a distinctive appearance in Google satellite view if you zoom in a bit. I shall know what to look out for next time. Look for 'Loire' at reference 3.

Taken with bacon and egg flan - aka Quiche Lorraine - salad, boiled potatoes. Date slice, small black grapes and a spot of 'Gubbeen' cheese to follow. Wine very good, did the bottle in wine go, spot of Calvados to finish off with.

I think we were reasonably clear that bottle two was a better bottle of wine than bottle one - and it is a pity that Café Rouge say that they are discontinuing a close relative (see reference 2). Although we suspected that 'better' was dependant on time and circumstance. And we would not like to say whether bottle two was worth more than twice as much as bottle one, which is what the asking price would suggest.
