Flowering triffid

Both the old triffid and the new triffid, aka aloe veras, have settled down well since I last reported in them at references 1 and 2 in August.

The main stem of the old triffid is still lying down, but it is healthy enough, to the point where it is now sporting a flower shoot, just about visible in the very centre of the snap left, a snap which proved little testing for the old Lumia. I shall try with the new when it returns from the O2 repair facility.

Given its failure to stand up without support, we had continued to wonder whether its natural habit is sessile, spreading out over the dry ground. We are fairly sure that it is an aloe vera, and it does indeed look very like that at reference 3. However, the images thrown up by google suggest that the ones grown in proper hot countries do not grow like our house bound versions at all - and they are certainly not sessile.

And given the search term 'aloe vera flower', google turns up mainly flashy red flowers, along with the suggestion that they don't usually flower as house plants in this country. But at least the flower bud among the flowers does look very like our flower bud. We shall watch progress with interest.
