Junk

I remember reading once that all serious buildings have back doors, back doors used for the movement of goods, services and menial staff, that is to say those whom one does not want to see at the front door (perhaps they smoke or something disgusting like that) - and that there are architects who specialise in designing same. Since then, I have often noticed that serious buildings do indeed have back doors, although, that said, I am not sure which door of the many exterior doors to what used to be Treasury Chambers in Parliament Street would be so designated.

In the same way, I dare say that all serious gardens, for example those attached to Hampton Court Palace, have yards. Yards where they keep their gear, their plants - and their rubbish. With this last bit not generally visible from the public areas. Not so at Ventnor Botanic Gardens where the dump, on the south eastern corner of the garden, is there for all to see. Not far from a children's playground. All kinds of strange and unexpected stuff.
