Waning moon visible from various places in Epsom during the morning of yesterday, Saturday 2nd April. This despite the bright sun and certainly until around noon.
But while the moon was clearly visible once one had locked onto it, it was hard to find in the first place, even when one knew roughly where it was. The brain seems to be quite lazy about checking the blue of the sky and is content just to leave it all blue unless one works at it. I remember something of the sort happening one evening, maybe twenty years ago now, with swallows swinging around the church tower at Slapton (in Devon), popping in and out of view in a seemingly random way.
At around 1130, I estimated the moon to be at around 210°, maybe 50° west of the sun.
Whereas this morning, at around 0600, the moon was at around 120°. Getting quite thin now, a crescent in all but name.
