Curiosity

I am told that the groom at the recent royal wedding wore the dress uniform of an officer in the Blues & Royals, one of the horse regiments of the guard, a regiment with its roots in Cromwell's life guard back in the seventeenth century. I was struck by the notion that a senior royal could be an officer in his own guard (as it were); not an arrangement that I imagine that very royal person, Louis XIV from across the water, would have countenanced.
