Treat three

The 'Hound of the Baskervilles' in East Street, Ashburton, provided the opportunity for a rare treat. Unexpected, in that I had thought that the pub had gone down in favour of a café, while it turned out that the pub was still alive and well in the back room. Alive and well to the extent of some serious cider tasting going on at the bar, tasting as in wine buff, rather than swilling as in lager. Perhaps the latter was to come later.

I took a pint of 'fraid not from the Exeter Brewery and very good it was too. A light yellow beer rather than a brown beer, an example of which was taken left. Rather like Greene King IPA when taken reasonably near the brewery.

Futhermore, given the café operation out front, one lady was able to have a small jug of milk with her coffee, while the other was able to have a small jug of coffee with her hot milk. The publican explained that he aimed to please.

Followed up, back at the holiday cottage (actually a rather swanky conversion of what had been a large shed), ham sandwiches on fresh white bread, another rare treat. Home cooked ham, naturally.

PS 1: I did not think to challenge the camera behind my pint to see what it could do with the scene. A missed opportunity to compare and contrast with what I assume is rather different technology, at least in the lens department.

PS 2: just had the second hogs' pudding, as mentioned yesterday. This one cooked for a little longer, under the more controlled conditions of our own oven, and was even better for it, with more of the flavour & colour of the bacon coming out. Served on this occasion with some excellent spring greens, rather than crinkly cabbage.
