A sign for our times

A sign for our times, captured at the bottom of Longmead Road, that is to say the West Ewell end.

Our times, dominated as they are by greed for stuff, for consumption and for money. And if you have got all that, for power. Much more important than, for example, responsible behaviour or public service. Conspicuously exemplified by the member for Bullingdon North.

A distant relative of bestitis, a disease I used to come across in the world of work from time to time. With those infected by this disease striving to be best, best in the world even, even when it ought to have been clear that this was quite inappropriate. Usually without regard to the arithmetic which says that we can't all be best, we can't all be way above average. Arithmetic which says that most of us are going to be bog-standard and it might be better if our expectations were better managed.
