The waiting room library at Raynes Park continues to be a source of interesting odds and ends, with this one being the winter 1970-1971 number of the magazine of the friends of St. Pauls Cathedral..
With this picture being the Easter garden set up in the north transept the previous Easter.
I learn that the Hon. Treasurer of the friends was, at that time, one E. T. Floyd Ewin MVO, OBE, MA, a member of all kinds of city institutions, a Notary Public and a man with a long association with the cathedral. Also the author of the Pitkin 'Pride of Britain' pictorial history of St. Paul's Cathedral, published in 1967 and still available from Amazon. Plus several other books about the cathedral.
I learn that the original business of the Haberdashers was to supply the coarse woollen cloth worn under armour and that they are very much to do with the school called Haberdashers' Aske's. I have yet to learn from reference 1 what the 'Aske' bit is.
The friends still exist, as can be seen from reference 2, but what does their magazine look like now, near fifty years on?
