First fruits

First picking of blackberries today, with the haul left taking a bit more than an hour to pick. Actually picked into the small white bowl behind, which fits snugly into the hand. And dropping - something which does happen from time to time - is not going to be too much of a disaster.

If you click to enlarge, you can probably see the livestock creeping around, particularly in the white bowl. At one point I had quite a lot of it on my hands.

The blackberries were mainly taken from the Common side of the roundabout at the turning into Horton Lane. Lots of large berries. Topped up along the eastern side of Horton Lane proper, where it was all very patchy. Some large, some small and some looking some weeks off being ready to pick. Some berries well past their best. Some plants damaged by the hot spell. I guess some of this variation was down to aspect, some to ground conditions and some to variety - there being a lot of different sorts of blackberry.

Blackberries now handed over to BH for tray freezing action.
