Finally made it to Polesden Lacey to be greeted by this cow. Striking and skillfully executed but falls prey to the sin noticed earlier in the day.
Covering the stand almost worked well. Best on offer in any event.
Given our tendency to use National Trust places at pit stops on long journeys, we speculated about the possibility of converting some of the cows into heritage/ecological petrol pumps, so rounding out the range of facilities on offer. Maybe Germans, with their tendency to coarse in such matters, would go for doing something with the udders.
Polesden Lacey busy, again despite it being a weekday. Several parties out on the croquet lawn. Lots of parties picnic'ing - as we were - on the big lawn overlooking the dry valley to the south of the house.
Herbaceous borders and rose gardens looking very well, if a little past their best.
Vegetable garden also looking well, if not on quite such a grand scale as the royal cabbage patch at Hampton Court. I stole two young runner beans and was pleasantly reminded how well young runner beans eat raw.
