Made it

Almost a year since we first noticed her (see reference1) and just days before our Tate pass expired (see reference 2), we made it to the O'Keeffe exhibition at Tate Junk.

Warmed up with double cinnamon buns at the nearby Gail's Bakery, with it being warn enough to sit outside. All very pleasant, if rather dear.

On to the turbine hall which was empty, so I felt able to lie down in the very middle and take in the full splendour of the place. A wonderful bit of indoor open space. Not impressed with the Chinese tree, just about visible on the bridge, nor with the fact that we seem to make a point of fêting artists from what used to be the communist block who have fallen out with their authorities.

On to O'Keefe which was rather crowded, although I found that standing in the centre of a room and waiting until the line to the picture one was interested in was free worked well enough - the pictures are mainly intended to be seen from a good distance - or at least they are to my mind. There was also rather a lot of it - but a lot of which I liked. I thought that some of them would have been improved by a proper frame - or indeed by having been better fitted into their canvas, without seeming to almost overflow - and I was slightly put out by the amount of sex that she managed to pour into some of her landscapes and most of her flowers. I was surprised at how badly they reproduced as I had thought that the simple colour schemes and the unfussy style would reproduce well - but it did not. Glad to have seen it, and we may go to see it again despite the possibility of queuing and the certainty of paying, but we were a little disappointed.

Being full of bun, we did not need instant lunch, so walked off up-river to Gourmet Pizza at Coin Street, our last visit to which was noticed at reference 3. On this occasion I took an entirely satisfactory gourmet pizza, avoiding, naturally, those more modern flavours which involve chilli and minced beef. Not proper to pizza at all to my mind.
