Abuse of ants

Regular readers will know of the ants' nest which we are cultivating in our new daffodil bed. See, for example, reference 1.

So we were pleased to find we had an up and coming ants' nest in our backyard, here at Brading. This morning it seemed to be doing well, but coming back this afternoon (after a day mainly spent on the foreshore at Bembridge), we were not pleased to find that the nest appears to have been swept away by the gardener.

Perhaps they don't do saving the planet here on the Isle of Wight. They are, after all, well behind the times in lots of other ways - that is, in some large part, why we come.
