The four concrete posts at the front of our house have had their periodic refurbishment too. That is to say they have been repainted in Dulux Weathershield One Coat Exterior Gloss Oxford Blue. I am sure that the name of this fine paint has got longer over the years but the exercise did serve to remind me that the corresponding Dulux undercoat is now water based rather than oil based, it taking an attempt to clean the brush in white spirit to make this clear.
While the real purpose was to provide a landmark for taxis who find it difficult to read the street numbers while driving along. We took the view that blue posts were better than very large numbers on the door. I am still negotiating about the merits of adding white horizontal stripe in the middle of each one.
Which apart from increasing visibility would earn a couple of points from the house inspectors by taking the eye & mind off the fact that all four posts are slightly different and that one of them is near derelict, dating from the time that the house was first built, getting on for ninety years ago now.
PS: another bit of good news was that, rather to my surprise, Swarfega did a very good job of getting all the paint off my hands, paint which got there when I was removing the very thick protective skin which had formed on top of the gloss. No skin at all on the undercoat for some reason.
