Burial

The short history of everybody - 'Guns, Germs & Steel' - by Jared Diamond, noticed at reference 1, was today accorded honourable burial in the large compost heap, the one behind the copper beeches that is, rather than the one in brick.

I did have a go, but found it all a bit too glib for my taste. I might have liked it better served up in smaller gobbets, perhaps in the form of some of those know-all articles they stick at the back of the Economist.

From his wikipedia entry at reference 2, clearly a clever chap who has had his fingers in all kinds of pies, but not for me. Too much of a feeling that he is spreading himself a bit thin and that the entertaining anecdotes with which the history is rounded out are not to be relied on outside of a public house. This despite it being described as an international best seller, awarded prizes by both Pulitzer and Rhône-Poulenc.
