Cartgate

We  made a second stop on the journey noticed at reference 1 at Cartgate Services.

The gyprocs noticed on a previous visit (see reference 2) still all present and correct, and not yet having acquired much in the way of lichen. Perhaps if one had taken strong drink, one might be tempted to stride across their tops - with the distance between them looking to be more a matter of nerve than ability. Not much more than a big step. As it was, some small boys thought about it and decided against.

It must be some years since I took a bacon sandwich from the associated café, but we do pay our way in a very limited way in that BH takes one of their coffees from time to time. While I continue to puzzle about how it is that I have never got into the habit of taking coffee, except after meals out. This despite several years of a Home Office regime where coffee and fancy biscuits were de rigueur for meetings involving contractors, of which there were lots. Regular gold mine for such people. Maybe it is to do with metabolic rate, with mine, I fancy, having been, at least until recently, quite high. No need for any caffeine to poke it up into dizzy heights. With dizzy not being altogether a figure of speech in this context.

PS: in the margins of checking that the car behind the tree is not our car, I find that snaps from the Lumia can take an impressive amount of zoom when viewed on the laptop, more than enough to read the number plate in question. A trick that does not work on the picture as seen through the blog, which has presumably cut the thing down to size a bit from its original 6.9Mb.
