An enterprising service station, just short of the M3 on the A303, has managed to infect a birch tree with mistletoe, which appeared to be doing well when we stopped by earlier today. They should have plenty to offer customers up for a bit of high jinks in the run up to Christmas.
This was followed by a new senior moment on the M3. They have been working on the section running west from the M25 for ages, working to deliver us a smart motorway whatever that might mean, complete with a lot of hefty, gravity and wind defying steel work to hold all the new signs.
In amongst all the road works, I managed to completely miss the turn-off for the M25 and only realised something was wrong when we came to an exit for Kingston, which we took, taking us the scenic route through Sunbury water works and Hampton Court. I can only think that the old signs which used to advertise the M25 exit had been taken down to make way for the new.
We thought about but decided against taking our picnic in the royal cabbage patch, electing to push on for home. A picnic including the luxury of ham sandwiches - BH boiled smoked loin from Waitrose - on Ashburton white. Despite my regular diet of wholemeal bread, white still rules for ham sandwiches and bacon sandwiches. A slightly different take on this point being found at reference 1.

PS: the mistletoe had even spread to some smaller trees to the left, off snap, so things can only get better for next year.
