About ten minutes ago, a cloud of birds arrived on the top of the oak tree behind the small ponds in the middle of our back garden. Inspection with the monocular revealed that they were the first redwings of the season. They now seem to be fanning out through the bottom half of the back garden, looking for something to eat.

Which may be fruitless, there not being many berries in sight, just a few on the hollies. None on the firethorn, still recovering from having been cut down to size a year or so ago.

See reference 1 for sightings over the last few winters, with, for some reason, 2015 being given the miss.
