Two foodie specials yesterday, the result of a more or less chance visit to the butchers in Manor Green Road, for whom see reference 1.
First, a white pudding, half of which I consumed for lunch, fried in lard and with a little brown bread. An excellent lunch, even if BH did complain about the smell of lard all over the place - although probably not as bad as that of cigar smoke, which takes a few days to disperse. About half a year since I last fell off the wagon, as it were. See reference 2.
Second, half a smoked haddock, around half a kilo in weight. Bought in the course of a visit by the butcher to Billingsgate the day before, seemingly now somewhere near far-off Canary Wharf. A visit he makes about once a month to stock up his freezer and I was lucky enough to chance upon the haddock before he had got around to moving it from his cold cabinet to his frozen cabinet. Taken with mashed potato and boiled cabbage, probably chou pointu. An excellent dinner.
PS: this sort of cabbage is good, but it needs very little cooking. Descends rapidly into mush.
