More arch

Proscenium arches came up in the context of 'A woman of no importance', last noticed at reference 1. They came up again in the form illustrated left during a visit to the Rose Theatre, about to be noticed properly.

In the form of what appeared to be a very large picture frame hung from the ceiling of a 'theatre in the round', a frame which served to frame the action of the play, despite its unusual orientation.

Given that the play was being offered by a touring company, we wondered who offered the frame? Even if it came apart it would still be a substantial thing to be carrying about. Then there would be the expense of making the thing in the first place. But then, thinking with my fingers, we have seen substantial constructions at this theatre, so perhaps they have a substantial carpentry department, well up for faking a picture frame, if only for a handful of performances.
