A couple of days ago we were told about the proprietress of a betting company who saw fit to pay herself of the order of a million pounds a day. Presumably because she has thought of some cunning wheeze whereby her customers are willing to pay her that much more for their betting than they might otherwise.
Then yesterday I read of a Russian oligarch who bought a painting for a hundred million pounds or so four years ago and who has now sold it on for four hundred. To those that have, shall be given more.
The story seems to be that some oil rich Arab sheik has bought it to grace his picture gallery somewhere in the Persian Gulf.
PS: I now wonder, given that (Sunni) Arabs traditionally hate (Shia) Persians, whether it is called the Persian Gulf in Arabic.
