The block on the southern end of Blackfriars Bridge, at the end of Upper Ground. Looks quite good from this angle, but rather ugly from Stamford Street. With the block I used to like behind it on the left.
Will the new occupants make use of the 'Mad Hatter' across the road in Stamford Street or the now rather dwarfed 'Doggett's Coat and Badge' on the bridge itself? New occupants who can stump up the £5-15m needed for one of the better flats.
For myself, I think the fashion for having tall buildings with shape has gone on for too long and has overreached itself. Both individually and collectively the buildings have become tiresome, and a bit more restraint, a bit less architectural and developer ego, would have been better. Yet another example of market forces not delivering a very attractive package.
PS: just in case you check (by looking at the file name which pops up at the bottom of the screen when you hover over the picture), this snap was actually taken the week previous to the visit under which it has been filed.
