Irritation

Somewhere along the way, on the strength of our membership of the National Trust, we have acquired the two coupons illustrated. We do use Majestic for our regular intake of Villa Maria sauvignon blanc and we will probably use the coupons, which represent a significant discount, which I suppose to be shared, roughly fifty-fifty between the Majestic and the Trust.

Nevertheless, I find it rather irritating that the National Trust should be going in for promotional stunts of this sort. The National Trust is supposed to be a staid and respectable charity, not some Asda-like operation going full-on after market share, foot-fall and turnover.

PS: later that day: have now been to Majestic, to discover that some very small print on the back said new Majestic customers only. The pleasant young man explained that the promotion had been quite successful company wide  - but not in his particular shop. A promotion more or less entirely paid for by Majestic, with the Trust just putting the coupons in their envelopes. As consolation prize, I was given a bottle of higher grade Villa Maria sauvignon blanc, I think the winery equivalent of single malt. To the value of perhaps half of what one of the coupons might otherwise been. So wiser, if not appeased.
