More abuse of language

Following the post at reference 1, another abuse of language today. Not particularly important in itself, but further evidence of sloppiness in these matters. As is the fact that it would probably not be noticed by anyone other than a senior citizen thought to be drifting into senile pedantry.

The sloppiness in question being the fact the the upgrade to these traffic lights is part of the elective upgrade to traffic management in Epsom town centre.

One supposes that some expensive bunch of private sector consultants had persuaded our town council that spending several million pounds on a bunch of contractors would breath new life into the town and be justified, in part anyway, by all those extra business rates which are going to be pulled in - assuming here that extra business rates do wind up in the council coffer, rather than in some central coffer, for doling out according to some mysterious formula, by the Secretary of State in Whitehall.

But nothing essential about it at all.
