Having noticed marrons glacés back in March, at reference 1 and happening to be in our M&S food hall today, I happened to come across a box of the things, for what I think might be a lifetime first.
Snapped here from the back, the front not being very interesting, at the top of West Hill, against the background of Clayhill Green and the southern end of Meadway, completed on the right by some of the cars of those commuters who do not care to pay to use the car park at the bottom of the hill.
Quite dear at £2 a pop for eight of them, with the tasteful wooden box thrown in for a further quid. Now put away for best, so I shall report on how they eat in due course.
PS: I learn in the margins of this post, that what is now the site, off to the left, of Kingswood House School, a school for the young offspring of those who are not bog-standard (to borrow a phrase from our late leader, the Rt. Hon. Mr. Blair), used to be the site of Colonel Dennis O'Kelly's racing establishment, with the Colonel being the owner of the once famous horse called 'Eclipse', for which the one-time pub, off to the right, was named. Now flats.
