The stones of Cartgate

The stones of Cartgate, this last being a service area on the A303, with the stones being last noticed about a year ago at reference 1, are still there. They have not been lifted by some travellers for onward sale for the decoration of some suburban garden.

We also had daffodils in bloom at Clapton, to the south of Crewkerne, and at the roundabout serving the Esher Common exit from the A3. While our own are a long way off blooming.

Then we had a kite over Winterbourne Stoke - and given that the forked tail was down and visible, a scoring tweet rather than the rather uncertain tweet of reference 2. And, as befits the season, the bourne was up, running and visible.

Two buzzards over Solstice Services, perhaps making a dozen for the weekend as a whole.

Four fresh white rolls for £1 from the co-op there, which together with a pack of hand reared Wiltshire ham, made a very satisfactory lunch, only slightly dearer than a ready made sandwich. We pondered about how it had been cut so thin and even. Was it necessary to freeze the stuff first? The fourth roll was still quite eatable this morning: not strong on flavour but quite good on texture.
