As superstars go, I have always thought that Mr. Beckham was a decent chap, a chap that money and success had not corrupted absolutely, reference 2 notwithstanding. So I was sorry to read (from the rather rubbishy Microsoft news feed which greets me when I fire up Edge in the morning), that he has engaged the services of a barrister who specialises in getting rich people off driving offences on some technicality or other, to get him off a speeding charge.
Neither he nor the barrister are claiming that he did not speed as charged. So I think a great deal the less of him for not paying up and shutting up. And if he had to hire an extra chauffeur for a bit, so be it - either he or his wife can well afford it.
I associate to the rant at reference 1. What sort of an example is Mr. Beckham setting for all those young men for whom he is, or at least was, a hero of football?
It is just as well that the barrister concerned is not that well known among football fans, with his example setting being even worse.
