Organs

An extravagant inflorescence on a plant in the arid garden. A plant which seems to be able to put a huge amount of energy into the business of reproduction on the basis of not very much plant.

There were a lot of plants similar in that regard to be seen at Tenerife when we were there some years ago. Not the same plant at all, but the same general shape, and with the core of the inflorescence hanging on for months after the flowers had come and gone. Gaunt black stalks poking up into the deep blue sky.
