Who or what does one have to be to get invited to evening drinks at a bed shop in Wigmore Street? A footballer? A Russian gangster or oligarch? A personality from a reality television show or a television news reader?

We did not have the brass to try getting in for a free glass of (probably) cheap bubbly.

It seems that one Rupert D'Oyly Carte was important in the life of this company, in other lives something to do with both the Savoy Hotel and the Savoy Theatre, these last being the G&S people.
