Ravages of the sea

I mentioned the ravages of the winter seas in the last post.

A bit further along we came to some steps down to the beach, steps which were guarded by this very serious steel gate, set in plenty of concrete, with merely a suggestion of stone. So the ravages are probably real enough.

Notice also the scallop shell, found on the beach below. We wondered whether it got there by natural causes or whether it came from some sea food operation in the vicinity. Or perhaps some sea food operation on the mainland? Would a shell of this sort travel far if it got into the water, without breaking up?
