Dinner

A week or so ago, our first visit to the Neapolitan Kitchen for a while. A place which I think we have been visiting since it took over from what had been the King Billy about nine years ago, although the first notice that I can find is for November 2011, confused by a misunderstanding about the spelling of 'Neapolitan'. A place which is still run by the founding couple, with the wife continuing to wear flashy Italian dresses for her appearances in the evening. A place where they started out by making their own bread and dough.

A bottle of Greco di Tufo DOCG, otherwise unspecified as I forgot to take a photograph, but good. A pity that this wine is not more widely available. Not even at Hedonism of Davies Street when I checked a little while ago, but today they offer a 2014 wine called 'Villa Raiano Contrada Marotta' and as it happens I shall shortly have an opportunity to pay them a visit. We shall see.

Bread very good. Then to start properly, gnocci. Very good. Italian sausage with turnip greens and potatoes to follow. Sausage OK, turnip greens a bit limp and potatoes, described as sauté were more like small oven chips. BH rather happier with what she had, I think a seafood risotto. Closed with tiramisu, which would have been very good had they eased off a bit with the cocoa (or something) dusting on the top. Plus some Italian brandy which was fine - and a lot cheaper than the missing Rémy.

By no means full, but plenty full enough of good, mixed custom to provide the right atmosphere.

A little disappointed with my choice of main course, but entirely satisfactory otherwise and we shall certainly be back for more. Good to see that they are doing OK.

And for once, we walked both ways.

PS: the illustration being what I hope to get from Hedonism, rather than what we did get on this occasion.
