The amazon take on the Reaktion book about yew trees. One of a series of books about popular plants, very much along the same lines of their previous series of books about things like the cod fish.
Written by someone whom I think might be fairly described as a botanical journalist. Full of all kinds of interesting stuff about yew trees, but rather tailing off into what one might call bubbles. Myths, legends, rural and urban myths about yew trees.
But I am getting closer to knowing why yew trees live for so long and why they do not form many forests. At least not any more.
Next stop the library at Vincent Square to see if they have a version with more long words, without being a full-on botanical textbook.
