Juglans nigra

The view from the bottom of the black walnut tree, aka juglans nigra. A native of the US, but which seems to grow fine here, with this one being a fine looking specimen.

A close up, with a walnut, not yet black, top middle.

A nut which is black, stolen from the base of the tree. Where there were, to be fair, plenty. About the same size as a regular walnut, that is to say around an inch in diameter.

Opened up, with the hole made by some bug or other clearly visible. Otherwise, recognisably a relative of the regular walnut.
